Kensington Avenue’s Whole School Commitment to Young Carers
A young carer is any young person who cares for a family member- this may be due to illness, disability, mental health problems or an addiction- or any other circumstance where they cannot cope without the young person’s support.
Statistics show that there are likely to be young carers in every school. Many young carers struggle to juggle their education and caring which can cause pressure and stress.
We, at Kensington Avenue Primary School, are committed to meeting the needs of young carers so that they can attend and enjoy school, in the same way as other pupils can, thereby achieving their full potential. We do this by having systems in place that identify and assess the level of caring done and provide support for each young carer and their families.
To help improve this service feedback and ideas from our young carers and their families are welcome. The school’s designated leads for young carers are Mrs Bhambra and Mrs Chamberlain. If you wish to contact them please call the school office on 0208 764 2923 or in person and leave a message.
There is also a private message box outside the KS2 hall that pupils can use to confidentially contact them. We have an effective referral system and strong partnership in place with the Young Carers Service at “Off the Record”, Croydon.
